About the Music Director
Diana Geiger was
appointed Music Director of the Ithaca Community Orchestra in July
2011. She is the former music director of the Auburn Chamber Orchestra.
From the fall of 2009 through the summer of 2011, Diana was assistant
conductor of the Ithaca Community Orchestra. As a cellist, she has
performed with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the
Auburn Chamber Orchestra, Genesee Chorus and Orchestra, Genesee
Symphony, Onondaga Civic Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Southern
Finger Lakes, and the Southern Tier Symphony.
She received her Masters of Music in Orchestral Conducting from
Houghton College, and Bachelor of Music Education from Ithaca College.
Conducting teachers have included Russell Stanger, Jeffrey Grogan,
Elizabeth Peterson, Brian Casey, Mark Hijleh, and Gregory Magie. Cello
teachers have included Elizabeth Simkin, Heidi Hoffman, Erin Ellis,
Rintaro Wada, and Feng Hew.
Prior to coming to Ithaca, Diana was a teacher and music administrator
in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She has been Director of Orchestras at
Boynton Middle School since January 2009. Currently she conducts the
String Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber
Ensembles, and teaches group lessons. In addition to her duties at
Boynton, she teaches beginning strings, grades 3-5, at Fall Creek
Elementary. During the summers, Diana works in Saratoga Springs with
the New York State Summer School of the Arts Jazz and Orchestral
program in an administrative capacity.
